Anti-Common Core Groups Meeting in Hillsborough County

Florida Stop Common Core Coalition will be holding a press conference with its partnerson Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 12:15 p.m. in the front of the Hillsborough County School Board, the same day public hearings are scheduled to discuss Common Core State Standards.

According to an FSCCC press release, the public hearings "are short and do not allow for proper input from the parents, teachers, and citizens." FSCCC believes that pushing flawed curriculum and education standards into Florida schools does not improve education and has been particularly vocal about its opposition to the education standards.

"FSCCC is made up of many groups who believe that the hearings are just a way to placate the citizenry and are not intended to really influence the push for the Common Core implementation," read the press release. "The idea that the state will subject children to data mining, iris scanning, cataloging, psychological parameters, and much more without the consent from their parents robs mothers and fathers of their parental authority."

The Florida Department of Education will be holding a public hearing to discuss the education standards Tuesday evening. Two other hearings are scheduled this week and will take place in Davie and Tallahassee.
