Ander Crenshaw Vows to Fight for Tax-Deferred Savings Accounts for Disabled Americans

Republican U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw commented on Thursday on the U.S. House unanimously passing a resolution creating a day of recognition for the parents of special needs children -- and hoped this would be a booster for his bill to create tax-deferred savings accounts for disabled individuals.

Individuals with special needs and their families know all too well the tough fight they must wage to achieve the same opportunities as other Americans, said Crenshaw. "Setting aside a day of recognition for them provides an opportunity to shine a light on their struggles and successes so Congress and all Americans can listen and learn."

Crenshaw used the occasion to shine the spotlight on his bill, the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act. The congressmans bill has been backed by Special Olympics, Autism Speaks and the National Disability Institute.

Im pleased this measure earned passage as one of many steps that can be taken to open the door to equality for all Americans, said Crenshaw. Moving ahead, I will keep fighting for the passage of the ABLE Act to help individuals with disabilities and their families in the area of financial planning.

The need for savings is even greater for a child with a disability because he or she will be less likely to earn an income and may require additional medical treatment or adaptive equipment, added Crenshaw. This bill would give families of people with disabilities the financial tools to save for their childs future just like other American families do.
