Ander Crenshaw Takes IRS Cuts to House Floor

U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, R-Fla., the chairman of the House Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee, took to the House floor on Monday night to shepherd $341 million in cuts to the IRS included in the Fiscal Year 2015 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Bill. The House is expected to vote on the proposal later this week.

Crenshaw pointed to recent problems with the IRS as he looks to gut it.

In the business world, poor performance does not warrant a pay increase, and the same must hold true for the federal government, Crenshaw said. Targeting groups for further scrutiny based on political belief, lost emails, lost hard drives, and agency employees who dont pay their own taxes its disgraceful. And, until the Internal Revenue Service can demonstrate principled integrity in the handling of taxpayer dollars, it should not be rewarded by receiving additional funding.

I commend my colleagues who have joined me in taking action to hold the Internal Revenue Service accountable and encourage the full House to do the same this week, Crenshaw added.
