Ander Crenshaw Pushes for Congressional Investigation of Benghazi

With the House Armed Services Committee getting a classified briefing on Wednesday on the attack that killed four Americans in Benghazi, U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, R-Fla., called for a congressional investigation of how the Obama administration handled it.

The date is an auspicious one, Sept. 11, 2012. On that night, a large group of gunmen struck the United Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi, Libya, killing U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stephens, a U.S. foreign service officer, and two security personnel, Crenshaw said. We are closing in on a year since that tragedy, and while separate investigations continue, bottom-line answers on what exactly happened remain elusive. Thats why I so strongly back the formation of a select committee to investigate this case.

While no one congressional committee has complete jurisdiction over all of the issues regarding Benghazi, several committees have authority over parts that overlap with other committees, Crenshaw added. The seriousness of the matter calls for a select committee which would unite the efforts, research, and capabilities of the ongoing proceedings.

I remain deeply outraged and saddened by the brutal attacks, Crenshaw said in conclusion. The Americans who perished that night put their lives out front for freedom, and their families and our nation deserve to know the true nature of what took place.
