Ander Crenshaw Praises GOP Congress for Cutting Costs
Republican U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, who represents the First Coast and parts of North Florida in Congress, praised the U.S. House for passing a continuing resolution on Saturday that will keep the federal government running till the end of September -- and noted that the new GOP majority helped trim its cost.
Congress has said yes to an historic $100 billion in spending cuts a bold and necessary response to rocky economic times. Capitol Hill looked in the mirror and made the same difficult choices with its money that Americans make with theirs every day, and I commend Chairman Rogers for his leadership through the past weeks, said Crenshaw. We have led in Congress by cutting member, committee, and leadership budgets. At the same time, we recognized that the Capitol police need resources to protect members, staff, and millions of visitors to Capitol Hill each year.
With exploding debt and record unemployment, this Congress does not deserve a special exception. The choices have been difficult, but we can do a whole lot more with a whole lot less. I know it, and the American people know it, added Crenshaw. We now turn our focus to the Fiscal Year 2012 budget. Moving forward, I remain resolute in my commitment to hold the line on government spending as I look for effective and efficient ways to help jump-start Americas economic engine and create jobs.
The resolution now heads to the Democratic-controlled Senate -- where it is expected to generate resistance.
