Ander Crenshaw: GOP Pledge Reflects the View of Floridians
On Thursday afternoon, U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw praised the Pledge to America being backed by his fellow congressional Republicans -- no surprise since the congressman from the First Coast is a deputy minority leader in the House. Crenshaw said the Republican agenda is needed to revive the economy and roll back massive spending backed by President Barack Obama and Democrats in Washington.
For too long, the voices of Americans in Florida and across the nation have been ignored in Washington, said Crenshaw. While they have been speaking out, the Obama administration and Nancy Pelosi have carried out a job-killing, big-spending agenda that doesnt reflect the priorities of the people.
Ive been traveling from one side of the Fourth Congressional District to the other, and folks have been telling me that Congress needs to focus on ways to create jobs, stop wasteful government spending, and reform the way it does business, added Crenshaw. They run their households in a responsible way and expect Capitol Hill to do the same.
The congressman, who was first elected in 2000, said he was proud to back the new Republican agenda.
Thats why Im joining with my colleagues to offer a 'Pledge to America'; the priorities of the people must top the agenda in Washington, said Crenshaw. Through this pledge we are presenting a set of bold solutions, renewing a commitment to our founding principles and offering a new way of doing business in Washington.
Praising the call for repealing new federal health-care laws backed by Obama, Crenshaw said the Republican plan could help revive the nations struggling economy while protecting Americas security.
With Americans looking for job creation, we are offering a jobs plan to end the economic uncertainty for American small businesses and make America more competitive, said Crenshaw. As massive debt threatens the prosperity of our children, we have a credible plan to rein in the budget deficit. To keep America safe from threats abroad and on our border, this pledge offers a commitment to national and border security. To honor the will of the people and protect the American health care system, we have a plan to repeal the new health care law and replace it with solutions that will bring down costs.
Crenshaw added that the Republican plan could help change the culture of Washington.
Americans increasingly view Congress as a broken institution, said Crenshaw. We offer a plan for reform that will provide real accountability and transparency.
We believe that Congress should carry out the will of the people and serve as a check against overextended power, concluded Crenshaw. Because the American people cannot endure any more of Washingtons misguided agenda, we pledge to fight for these solutions today. Having enlisted the voices of the American people, we are now well-prepared to move America forward and restore our founding principle of accountability to the people.
