Ander Crenshaw Battles Against Defense Spending Cuts
From his perch on the U.S. House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw took aim at planned cuts to the military budget.
As Congress works to address the supercommittees failure to act on budget cuts, the stakes couldnt be higher for the Pentagon. Thats why I have co-sponsored this common-sense approach to preserving the strength of our national defense as we move through these tough economic times, Crenshaw said. We can achieve the same savings in the first year of sequestration by allowing for attritionof the federal work force by 10 percent over 10 years. Our nations military has already contributed nearly a half trillion dollars to deficit reduction and our servicemen and women are being asked to do more with less. Weve spent 10 years rebuilding our nations military, and I will not allow short-sighted budget decisions to turn back that progress.
Crenshaw announced that he is co-sponsoring a bill from U.S. Rep. Buck McKeon, R-Calif., the House Armed Services Committee chairman, to prevent defense cuts required by the sequestration process.
