Americans Still Opposed to Obamacare Individual Mandate

Americans are still not on board with the individual health care mandate, according to a new poll released Monday by Rasmussen Reports.

Americans are paying attention to news stories about the implementation of Obamacare -- the poll found 85 percent of likely U.S. voters said they were following news stories either somewhat closely or very closely, with 44 percent saying they were following news stories "very closely." Only 14 percent said they were not following news stories about the new health care law closely or at all.

When it comes to the government requiring every American to buy or obtain health insurance, half of Americans say the government should not require every American to buy or obtain health insurance. Thirty-six percent say the government should do so.

American voters are more closely divided when it comes to favoring or opposing a single-payer health care system where the government provides coverage for everyone. Thirty-nine percent say they would favor such a system, while 44 percent said they'd oppose it.

The survey of 1,000 likely U.S. voters was conducted Sept. 28-29 by Rasmussen Reports.
