Allen West Finds Lessons from the Bible as Shutdown Looms
Former U.S. Rep. Allen West was in Louisiana over the weekend for a fundraiser for Louisiana state Sen. Elbert Guillory who recently jumped over to the GOP after first being elected as a Democrat. West took to Facebook on Monday to offer his thoughts on the looming federal shutdown and he pointed to a sermon he heard on Sunday covering the Acts of the Apostles which Washington could draw inspiration from.
One thing sticks with me from my time here in the beautiful Bayou State: attending church service at First Baptist of Lafayette, West posted on Monday morning. Pastor Steve preached yesterday from the Book of Acts, Chapters 2, 4, and 5 about the five principles of Christian stewardship: unity, generosity, necessity, personal integrity, and accountability.
As I reflect upon the decisions in our nation's Capitol today, I wish Pastor Steve had given that sermon on the House and Senate floor, and to a certain someone in the Oval Office, West continued. Folks in D.C. are sent to be stewards and representatives and I wonder if we were to ask what their guiding principles are, what the response would be. Heck, Id just like to know what sermon message they heard on Sunday morning. Our resources are not their toys and our lives are not for their manipulation. Do the right thing today, Harry Reid. America is watching your stewardship.
West, a favorite of the tea party who lost out to Democrat Pat Murphy in 2012, has opened the door to a political comeback in 2016.
