Allen West Calls to Vote Out Every Senator and Congressman if Shutdown Takes Place

With the federal government facing a shutdown later on Monday, former U.S. Rep. Allen West had a simple message for Congress: Do your job.

Shutting down the government is the most unpatriotic thing Congress could do, West wrote supporters on Monday. We elected the 535 men and women who serve in the House and Senate to do a job and that job does not include such extreme partisan bickering that they become incapable of rectifying their differences to keep the government running.

Congress has a deadline: 11:59 p.m. EDT tonight, West continued. If they fail to meet it and the government shuts down, every single one of the 535 members should be voted out in their next election.

West, who is popular with conservatives, has left the door open to a political comeback in 2016.
