Alan Grayson Takes Aim at Patrick Murphy for Backing Benghazi Committee
Former U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., came out swinging on Friday, hitting U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., for being one of three Democrats who backed creating the Benghazi Select Committee.
Grayson and Murphy are both running for the U.S. Senate in 2016 as U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is running for the Republican presidential nomination and has said he will not seek a second term. On Friday, Grayson slammed Murphy for backing the committee which is looking at how then U.S. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton handled terror attacks in Libya on Sept. 11, 2012 which left four State Department officials dead. Clinton is the leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.
"From the beginning the Benghazi Select Committee has been a partisan clown show, and anyone who was paying attention knew that’s exactly what would happen," Grayson said on Friday. "Everything the tea party Republicans who run the Benghazi committee have done, they have done with Patrick Murphy’s permission.
"Patrick Murphy voted to allow Republicans to use the power of Congress to harass and smear Hillary Clinton," Grayson added.
"Murphy’s vote to support this witch hunt tells you all you need to know about him," Grayson concluded. "He’s a Republican who voted like it when he thought no one was watching, and the consequences of his support for the Republican agenda will come back to haunt the Democratic Party and our presidential candidate."
