AIF's Barney Bishop: Florida Can't Afford Dan Gelber
Barney Bishop, president and CEO of the Associated Industries of Florida, came out swinging on Wednesday against Sen. Dan Gelber, the Democratic candidate for attorney general.
Florida doesnt need Dan Gelber as attorney general, insisted Bishop. If elected, he will follow in the footsteps of New Yorks Eliot Spitzer and Connecticuts Dick Blumenthal -- harassing Floridians and businesses with costly and unnecessary investigations that lead to no prosecution, no convictions and no recovery to the state -- all to inflate their own political ambitions.
Bishop hammered Gelber on his record.
Gelber has already pledged to withdraw Floridas challenge to Obamacare, an unpopular and expensive nightmare for our states citizens and companies, added Bishop. His outrageous activism is further demonstrated to sue the Legislature for inadequate funding of public education, saddling Florida taxpayers with both the plaintiff and defense costs in what will be long-drawn-out and expensive litigation. Floridians simply cannot afford to elect Dan, fiscally or philosophically.
Bishop praised Republican nominee Pam Bondi, who spoke to his group on Wednesday and whom the AIF backed in June.
It is critical that Florida elects an attorney general with conservative values who understands that federal mandates and frivolous litigation only hurt our businesses and crush any hope we have for returning our economy to a healthy state, concluded Bishop. Pam Bondi recognizes this and appreciates the integral role the free-enterprise system plays in the equation, and AIF is proud to support her as Floridas next attorney general.
