AIF Backs Tom Lee, Ellyn Bogdanoff and Victoria Siplin for Senate
On Friday, the Associated Industries of Florida political action committee (AIFPAC) took sides in nine state Senate races, including wading into some competitive primaries.
AIFs vision for the future of Florida requires leaders who are committed to fostering the business-friendly climate necessary for job growth and a return to economic prosperity, said Tom Feeney, the president and CEO of AIF. The Senate candidates endorsed today have clearly demonstrated their support for Floridas employers and recognize the critical role business plays in the vitality of the state. We look forward to working with them in the Florida Legislature.
AIF is backing former Senate President Tom Lee over Rep. Rachel Burgin, R-Tampa, in one of the more divisive Republican legislative primaries in the state. AIF endorsed Victoria Siplin in the Democratic primary for an open seat in Central Florida over Rep. Geri Thompson, D-Orlando.
The group is also backing Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff, R-Fort Lauderdale, over Sen. Maria Sachs, D-Delray, in a general election match-up pitting two incumbents against each other. Three other incumbents seeking re-election -- Sen. Thad Altman, R-Melbourne, Sen. Jeremy Ring, D-Margate, and Sen. David Simmons, R-Altamonte Springs -- also got AIFs support on Friday.
Other candidates who won AIFs backing on Friday were three members of the Florida House looking to move to the Senate -- Rep. Joe Abruzzo, D-Wellington, Rep. Denise Grimsley, R-Sebring and Rep. Dorothy Hukill, R-Port Orange.
