Agriculture Commissioner Candidate Rick Minton Blasts Offshore Drilling
Saying he had been pushing the issue long before former Tallahassee Mayor Scott Maddox entered the race to be Floridas next commissioner of agriculture and consumer services, Rick Minton, a former state representative commented on his opposition to off shore drilling today. Minton and Maddox are both running in the Democratic primary.
Minton said that offshore drilling would damage Floridas tourist and agriculture economies with little benefits in return.
Anyone who is for it lacks vision and should not be in a leadership position in the state, said Minton. Its not worth the risk, it never has been.
Minton, who served eight years in the House, said that Florida should focus on alternative methods for energy, including solar and bio-fuel.
We should have gotten off oil in the 70s, said Minton who added that Brazil has done well on alternative energies.
