AFP Thanks Florida Legislators Who Opposed Medicaid Expansion

Americans for Prosperity’s (AFP) Florida chapter sent out a mailing this week, praising state legislators who opposed Medicaid expansion earlier this year. The Florida House and Gov. Rick Scott opposed the expansion while the state Senate backed it.

“It’s not about left or right, but right and wrong,” said Chris Hudson, AFP’s director in Florida, on Tuesday. “It took real courage to stand strong against the intense pressure from special interests and political jockeying to make the right decision for Florida families, taxpayers, and patients. These elected officials should be commended for their hard work, and should take this time before the 2016 legislative session gets underway to commit themselves to pushing free-market health care reforms that will yield more positive results for Florida’s most needy.

“Expanding a broken system that does not provide the sort of access and quality care patients deserve should not be the first option,” Hudson added. “We are working hard in communities across the state to educate citizens about the free-market reforms we hope legislators will pursue in the months to come.”
