AFP Cheers Rick Scott's Stance on Medicaid Expansion

Americans for Prosperity's (AFP) Florida chapter offered support to Gov. Rick Scott after he expressed major hesitation in accepting federal funds to expand Medicaid.

We applaud Gov. Scott for fighting back against overreaching federal bureaucracies and acknowledging the shortcomings of Medicaid expansion, said Chris Hudson, AFPs state director, on Monday evening. The governor has shown that he understands the need for both the federal government and Tallahassee to live within their means. We appreciate that he makes a clear distinction between Medicaid expansion and Low Income Pool funding. We oppose Medicaid expansion under Obamacare because we cannot rely on the federal government to fill the gaps in the budget, which the Florida House understands would cause more harm to the very Floridians the expansion is intended to benefit. Floridians deserve the best quality health care and access to care possible, so the Senate should focus on real reforms, not enlisting billions in deficit spending to try and treat the symptoms.
