Adjusting to Reality, Kendrick Meek Takes Aim at Marco Rubio
Late last week, the campaign team of U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, the Democratic nominee in the U.S. Senate race, launched a new website focusing on Republican front-runner Marco Rubio. His campaign doubled down on their attacks on Rubio on Sunday.
"The time is now for Floridians to take a stand, said Adam Sharon, a spokesman for Meek. With Marco Rubio, the choice for Floridians is clear: they can stand with a candidate who will push his own extreme tea party political philosophy, orwith Kendrick who is fighting for Florida's middle class and putting everyday, hard-working people first. This week, our campaign will continue to use Rubio's own words to show Floridians that there is only one candidate who will stand up to Marco Rubio, the tea party, and corporate special interests on behalf of everyday Floridians."
Meek spent most of September pounding away at Gov. Charlie Crist who is in the race without party affiliation. The Meek team has now made Rubio -- who is beating both Crist and Meek by double digits in almost every recent poll -- its chief target. Meek has his work cut out for him; in some of the polls Rubios support is double the size of the Democrats. But it also shows there is a new dynamic in the race. What was supposed to be a dramatically close contest appears to be, for now at least, shaping into a large victory for the Republican candidate.
