Adam Putnam Pushes for Rick Scott to Sign Consumer Bills

In his weekly roundup, Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam noted five pieces of legislation that benefit Florida consumers.

Putnam then added, If the governor signs these important pieces of legislation, consumers can expect:

1) The passage of Florida's first energy bill in four years. While a modest step toward Florida's energy future, this policy will diversify Florida's energy portfolio, create jobs, expand energy production and create jobs.

2) A reduction in the fees associated with concealed weapons permits will allow Floridians to renew a permit for $70 or obtain a new permit for $60 -- a $15 and $10 reduction, respectively.

3) The elimination of all fees associated with Florida's "Do Not Call" list, which prohibits businesses from making unsolicited sales calls to subscribers, will allow consumers to sign up or renew their subscription for free.

4) The merger of the department's Division of Standards with the Division of Consumer Services will save taxpayers approximately $800,000 each year.

5) The creation of the Division of Food, Nutrition and Wellness will allow the department to better implement the state's school nutrition program, which aims to increase the health and nutrition of students statewide.

The bills have yet to be formally sent to Gov. Rick Scott's desk.
