Adam Putnam: Florida Farms Still Running Despite Cold Weather
Incoming Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Adam Putnam weighed in on the cold weather plaguing Florida and how it impacted the states farms.
Last nights severe cold weather does not appear to have had a broad impact on Florida agriculture, but did bring some harm to the winter vegetable crop, mainly snap beans and bell peppers, said Putnam. I am pleased Commissioner Bronson took the necessary proactive measures to request an executive order and that Governor Crist approved it so quickly. This will continue to allow product to move to market as quickly as possible. While preliminary reports are still coming in and we expect another night of cold air, Florida farms are still open for business and remain quality suppliers for the nations winter food supply.
