Adam Putnam Builds Agriculture Ties With Panama
Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam is leading a delegation to Panama this week as the agriculture community looks to increase trade with that Central American nation. Two years ago, a free trade agreement with that nation was completed and the Panama Canal expansion is expected to be finished next year.
On Monday, Putnam and his delegation met with U.S. Ambassador Jonathan Farrar. Its an honor for the delegation of growers and me to meet with Ambassador Farrar, said Putnam. Were thrilled to be in Panama to promote some of the worlds best products, and we appreciate the warm welcome weve received from everyone.
Putnam and the delegation will be joined by PortMiami Director Bill Johnson on Tueday for more meetings, including with the president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Panama (AMCHAM).
Panama remains an important partner with Florida and ranks as the fifth largest trade partner with the Sunshine State when it comes to agriculture, which came to more than $168 million back in 2012 and created 1,800 jobs. In the last two years, Floridas agriculture trade with Panama has grown 70 pecent.
