Adam Hasner Stresses Conservatism, Signs 'Contract From America'

Former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, who is running for the Republican nomination to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, signed the "Contract From America" which pledges that a candidate will back smaller government, repeal the federal health-care law. and lower taxes. The contract is being pushed by FreedomWorks and former U.S. House Majority Leader Dick Armey. The contract was backed in the 2010 cycle bymyriad candidates including Mike Lee, Jim DeMint, Tom Coburn and Sharon Angle.

"I'm proud to sign the 'Contract from America' without hesitation," said Hasner on Monday "The foundational values represented in the contract are the same pillars of liberty, economic freedom, and limited government that are the foundation of our campaign in Florida. With America facing generational challenges on spending, the debt, and entitlement reforms, values like the ones contained within the contract are needed now more than ever."

Hasner has been on the offensive lately, taking aim at some of his rivals including state Senate President Mike Haridopolos and former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux. Hes also trying to wedge himself to their right and the contract-signing is his latest attempt to brandish his conservative credentials. Look for a lot more chest-thumping from Hasner and the rest of the pack in the months to come about who is the most conservative candidate. It worked for Marco Rubio and Rick Scott in 2010 -- and ambitious Republicans in Florida were taking notes.
