Adam Hasner Sticks With Paul Ryan Despite N.Y. Election Result

Former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, now in a crowded and competitive Republican primary to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, shrugged off the results of a special congressional election in New York on Tuesday night, inwhich a Democratic candidate picked up aseat from the Republicans, and doubled down his support of federal budgetary reforms backed by U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis.

"Our nation is on the path to virtual bankruptcy. It was put on this path by decades of irresponsible spending by Democrats and Republicans in Washington, D.C., said Hasner. The path was accelerated by President Obama and Senator Bill Nelson, who are transforming America into a European welfare state. They have been enabled by Republicans who supported the Obama-Nelson stimulus and voted for billions of dollars of pork spending. They cannot be stopped by typical politicians who lack the courage to speak forcefully and unequivocally for the bold reforms that are desperately needed to save America.

"While others stick their fingers in the wind to see what the election results from last night mean for their support of the Ryan plan, I remain steadfast in my support, added Hasner. In fact, my only complaint with the Path to Prosperity Plan is that it does not go far enough, fast enough, to address Washington's unsustainable spending. Unlike my opponents, I would vote for the plan without hesitation, because I know that the alternatives are rationed care and declining health care options, watching Social Security and Medicare slowly go bankrupt, or America faltering under the weight of unsustainable entitlement programs.

"America is not too big to fail, insisted Hasner in closing. Without serious leaders willing to take on the tough challenges of reforming Social Security and Medicare, and repealing Obamacare, the America we know will be lost forever. Democrats, and even some Republicans, will attempt to distort my record and attack my support for the Path to Prosperity Plan. I would rather say what needs to be said and lose an election, than not say enough and lose my country."
