The U.S. Senate failed to extend unemployment benefits Tuesday, meaning many unemployed workers will stop receiving benefits ahead of the holiday season.
About 160,000 Floridians will stop receiving benefits as of Friday, and about 40,845 workers will lose their benefits each subsequent week, according to the Agency for Workforce Innovation.
The Hill reports that nationwide, about 800,000 workers will lose their benefits after this week, with 2 million ineligible by the end of December.
Republicans did not support the measure, citing the measure's unfunded $56.4 billion price tag that would add to the deficit.
