50 Drug Dealers Arrested? Well, Heck, It's Only February
It's always interesting to see what USA Today picks for its top story from each state for its daily roundup.
Today, in Florida's case, it's an item about St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara announcing his office had arrested "more than 50" drug dealers, using undercover officers.
No offense to USA Today or Sheriff Mascara, but from what I remember about St. Lucie County, "more than 50" drug dealers being arrested was basically a slow Saturday morning in Fort Pierce.
On the other hand, it does bring to mind a conversation I once had while working in Stuart when the AP bureau in Miami called to see if we had any stories of statewide interest.
"Well," I said, "I know you don't care much, but we had a guy caught on 95 with 5 Ks of cocaine."
"How much?" she asked.
"Five Ks," I said.
"Hell," she said. "We have more than that in our office."
Keep it all in perspective.
