117,000 Jobs Gained in July; Unemployment Stays High at 9.1 Percent

A Bureau of Labor Statistics report out today shows that nonfarm payrolls added 117,000 jobs in July, but it barely put a dent in the national unemployment rate, which came in at 9.1 percent, or 0.1 percent lower than June's number.

It will be interesting to see how many of those jobs were added in Florida when its July unemployment numbers are released later this month. In May, Florida added 28,000 jobs -- more than half the total jobs created in the nation that month, but then added just 4,600 jobs in June. The Sunshine State's unemployment rate remained at 10.6 percent in June.
