Hurricane Dorian isn’t bringing Florida politicians together, at least when it comes to President Donald Trump.

As Republicans highlighted the potential for federal assistance this week, Democrats expressed astonishment that Trump revived his spat with Puerto Rican leaders as the storm threatened the island.

Florida’s past two governors showcased the conflicting views about policy toward Cuba, after President Donald Trump’s administration this week banned a popular way to travel to the island nation.

U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, a Republican who left the governor’s office in January, gave full support to the decision. Scott, an ally of Trump, said money spent in Cuba goes directly to the Castro regime and helps keep President Nicholas Maduro in power in Venezuela.

New allegations, including comments about “old” employees and “rednecks,” have been leveled against Florida’s top financial regulator, who was put on administrative leave last week amid an investigation into a sexual-harassment complaint.

State Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis late Friday announced that Office of Financial Regulation Commissioner Ronald Rubin had been placed on leave. Since then, two more allegations have been released about the conduct of Rubin, who landed the $166,000-a-year state job in February.

Rubin has not responded to requests for comment.
