The Top Five Strangest Campaign Emails of 2014

October 5, 2014 - 6:00pm

Hardly a few hours go by every day without some form of campaign email hitting my inbox. Some are simple, without too many frills -- just a plain old please vote for me message with a signature at the bottom. Some ask for a little more with a quick please donate to my campaign blurb.

But others are just plain wacky, crossing well over the line from normal to bizarre.

Heres my list of the Top 5 Strangest Emails Ive received this election season.

1. Its Like That Part in Jurassic Park!

One: This is a really random reference in terms of campaigns. Two: Of all the movies with a screaming scene in them, why did the Charlie Crist campaign team decide to use Jurassic Park? Why not the infamous shot of terror of Shelley Duvall from The Shining? Or the classic shriek of terror from Alfred Hitchcocks Psycho?

2. "What the Hell?"

The Charlie Crist campaign has had quite an interesting array of emails going around this election season, which is why they placed on this list so many times. This one, which is about the College Republicans National Committees"Say Yes To the Candidate" ad, does nothing to hide the campaigns disgust over the one-minute spot, which TIME called the Most Sexist Ad of the Year.

3. Im pissed and you should be too.

The sender of this clickbait email should hardly come as a surprise -- its none other than medical marijuana backer and profanity lover John Morgan, who recently made headlines for an expletive-happy speech on legalizing medicinal pot.

A simple angry probably would have sufficed, but Morgan is, according to the email mad as hell, and has a penchant for profanity, which might explain the subject line.

4. Desperation: A Chronicle of Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Emails

Take a look for yourself:

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has to be one of the groups with the most email volume these days. Its a pretty constant stream of begging and pleading for donations, sometimes from Nancy Pelosi, sometimes from Joe Biden, and there are even some emails from the president himself. And I mean, there are a LOT of emails.

Sadly, it doesnt look as if the DCCC is giving up its nonstop barrage of incessant requests, which means (joy!) lots of emails coming into my inbox.

PSA to the DCCC:Crazed desperation is not a good look.

5. The Emoji Email

In todays day and age, why say it with words when we can just use emojis? The popular Japanese smileys have taken social media by storm in recent years, and now it appears theyve entered the campaign email bloodstream. The Charlie Crist campaign seems to be a repeat offender of the emoji email -- one email used the cat/heart eye emoji. Another used several instead of typing out regular words like car and "computer."

On Saturday, I received an email from the Charlie Crist campaign with a subject line consisting entirely of emojis, this one to give a big thumbs down to the previously mentioned CRNC wedding dress ad.

Cute, I guess, but really?

With a month to go, it's pretty much certain the emails will keep flooding in -- and at this rate, campaign teams will keep on upping the ante of ridiculousness with each email that makes its way into my inbox.
