Ted Yoho: VA Opening Medical Clinic in Clay County

August 1, 2018 - 11:30am

Clay County, a growing area in Northeast Florida, will soon have a VA medicial clinic to help that area’s veterans.

U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., announced on Wednesday that the VA will open a primary care facility in Middleberg which will be able to help 4,500 veterans when opened and is expected to help more than 11,000 veterans in the years to come.

In recent years, Yoho has been pushing the VA to open a medical facility in Clay County and he weighed in on the news.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be able to share today that Clay County is getting their clinic,” Yoho said. “This project has been a priority for our team and I want to commend all our stakeholders who helped make this happen. There has been such a demand and a need for this project and I want to thank the VA for their efforts on this project. We cannot do enough for our veterans and look forward to the increased care and service that will be provided out of this clinic.

“While today we celebrate this milestone, we still have work to do and will be working closely with the awardee and the VA in design and planning meetings to make sure we get this to the finish line as quickly as possible,” Yoho added. “This is a major win for Clay County but also for all veterans in the region. This is a project that we were not willing to give up on and we refused to let this chance slip away.”

Clay County is the home to 29,000 veterans. Around 11,000 veterans are currently enrolled in the  North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System.

First elected to Congress in 2012 after he upset longtime U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., in the primary, Yoho serves on the U.S. House Foreign Affairs and Agriculture Committees. He currently leads the U.S. House Asia and the Pacific Subcommittee.
