Incoming Gov. Rick Scott wanted to meet with all of the members of the Legislature beforecoming into office in January and he has been hitting the ground running.

On Monday, Scott met with five representatives in Naples. On Tuesday, he will meet with six representatives and three senators in Fort Lauderdale Former U.S. Rep. Jim Davis, best known for his run as the Democratic gubernatorial nominee against Charlie Crist back in 2006, has decided not to run for mayor of Tampa Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who moved to the Sunshine State earlier in the year, was on Mondays taping of ABCs The View offering his take on 2012. Huckabee, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 and may do so again in 2012, said that President Barack Obama will be tough to defeat in 2012 ...

Florida Republican U.S. Rep. John Mica, who is set to chair the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, continues gaining national attention from his criticism of the TSA for new intrusive searches of airline passengers. Mica was on CNNs State of the Union on Sunday morning, taking aim at the new pat-downs and full body scanners While Mica should have no problem getting the gavel for his committee, another Republican from the Sunshine State is in a fight to lead a committee. U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns wants to lead the Energy and Commerce Committee but is facing three challengers: Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, Rep. John Shimkus of Illinois and Rep. Fred Upton of Michigan Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis agrees with Obama on one issue -- getting India a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. Bilirakis is the chief sponsor of a motion in the House backing Indias bid for the seat

While politicians in Virginia look to postpone or reverse the decision by the Navy to transfer an aircraft carrier from the Old Dominion to Mayport on Floridas First Coast, it is increasingly looking as if it will be the USS George H.W. Bush, the newest carrier in the fleet, that will be headed to the Sunshine State. Former Gov. Jeb Bush is supporting having the carrier named after his father to be ported in Florida Only one of National Journals Top 10 political ads went to a Florida candidate. Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Kendrick Meeks ad using old quotes from Crist, who was running with no party affiliation, made the list, coming in at No. 9 First Lady Michelle Obama hit the Sunshine State on Monday, visiting an elementary school in the Little Havana section of Miami to push her campaign against childhood obesity and for better nutrition

Keep an eye on Hernando County. With Hernando County Sheriff Rich Nugent having won election to Congress, Gov. Charlie Crist gets to appoint a new interim sheriff -- and he has six candidates to choose from: Assistant State Attorney Don Barbee, retired Pasco County Captain Bobby Sullivan who is now handling public safety at St. Leo University, Eddie McConnell with the Sheriffs Office who ran for the post in 2000 and 2004, Mike Maurer and Undersheriff Al Niehnuis; and Brian Moore, who ran against Alex Sink in the Democratic gubernatorial primary and pulled more than 20 percent, has also thrown his name in the mix. Maurer, who served as Nugents chief of operations, has his old boss support The Florida Chamber Foundation announced on Monday that Jane Adams was elected chair of the board of trustees. Adams, who has been on the board since 2002, currently serves as the vice president of university relations at the University of Florida At least one Florida politician is wondering what Crist is doing trying to pardon rock star Jim Morrison of the Doors for exposing himself at a Miami concert in 1969. The always colorful former Gov. Claude Kirk, the first Republican elected as governor since Reconstruction who was in office when the incident occurred, criticized Crist for the decision.
