Former Rep. Perry McGriff, the Democrat challenging Republican Sen. Steve Oelrich of Gainesville, received a boost on Wednesday when Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson campaigned with him. Duval County School Board Member W.C. Gentry, a registered Republican, is hammering away at Republican Party of Florida Chairman Sen. John Thrasher of Jacksonville. Gentry has donated to Thrashers Democratic opponent Deborah Gianoulis and founded Floridians for Education and Economic Development Inc., which has been running attack mailings against the Republican. Gentry has taken aim at Thrasher over his support of SB 6, a measure vetoed by Gov. Charlie Crist that would have reformed teacher performance pay With former Jacksonville Port Authority Chairman Tony Nelson facing fraud charges after an FBI investigation, documents released Wednesday revealed that current Rep. Lake Ray, R-Jacksonville, called the FBI over Nelsons wrongdoings. Ray, then a member of the Jacksonville City Council, complained to the FBI over pressure Nelson was putting on him to hire a company that Nelson had ties with Conservative Troy Stanley, running with out party affiliation against U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, held a rally in the north side of Jacksonville on Thursday. Continuing to ignore Stanley, Crenshaw offered a legislative update in Callahan, toured a solar facility in Baldwin and visited the Baker County sheriffs complex in Macclenny on Thursday.
