After debating Democratic rival Alex Sink, Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott headed Thursday to Lakeland where he attended the Florida Phosphate Committee of Continuous Existences annual conference. Scotts running mate, Rep. Jennifer Carroll of Jacksonville, focused on the Tampa Bay region Thursday, attending events in Sarasota and Tampa ...

Sink and CFO candidate former Rep. Loranne Ausley are not the only Florida Democrats taking aim at a courthouse being built in Tallahassee that has gone over budget. Long-time Jacksonville news anchor Deborah Gianoulis, the Democratic candidate taking on Republican Party of Florida chairman Sen. John Thrasher, is focusing on the Tallahassee Taj Mahal to attack her opponent Republican Marco Rubio, the front-runner in the U.S. Senate race, spent Thursday hitting Port St. Lucie. His Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, had a much busier day on the campaign trail on Thursday. Meek started with an appearance on the "Bubba the Love Sponge" radio show before speaking in St. Petersburg and Gainesville. Meek wrapped up the night in Tallahassee, rallying at FAMU just before midnight

Democrats increasingly think they have a chance of picking up a congressional seat in South Florida. Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine will be hitting the campaign trail with Meek to help former Obama administration official Joe Garcia on Friday. Garcia is facing Rep. David Rivera, R-Miami, for the congressional seat currently held by Republican U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart With no Democratic opponent, but facing a challenge from conservative businessman Troy Stanley who is running with no party affiliation, Republican U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw is attending events throughout his North Florida district. Crenshaw attended four events in Jacksonville on Thursday related to education and military matters. Crenshaw headed north to Yulee in Nassau County that night at an event with Rep. Janet Adkins, R-Fernandina Beach Republican attorney general candidate Pam Bondi focused on Central Florida this week with events in Daytona Beach and Orlando. While he has not endorsed Scott who defeated him in the Republican gubernatorial primary, Attorney General Bill McCollum chaired a fund-raising event in Orlando for Bondi on Thursday

While Tony Buntyn lost to Mike Prendergast in the Republican primary to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, he has taken to the campaign trail to help his rival. Buntyn, a colonel in the Air Force reserve and a technology security consultant, has kept his website up and could be interested in continuing his political career Mike Yost, the Republican congressional candidate taking on Democratic U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, is going all out in the final weeks of the election. Yost has taken every opportunity hes had to hammer Brown and is planning events in Jacksonville and Orlando this weekend Republicans in the leadership increasingly took aim at proposed constitutional amendments on the November ballot throughout October -- with the likes of Sen. Don Gaetz of Fort Walton Beach and Rep. Will Weatherford of Wesley Chapel sending e-mails to their backers highlighting their opposition to various measures

Incoming House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Haven, is getting some support from the other side of the aisle. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer backed Cannon for re-election instead of supporting Democratic candidate Amy Mercado The Sierra Club on Thursday endorsed former Tallahassee Mayor Scott Maddox, the Democratic nominee to be Floridas next commissioner of agriculture and consumer services. Maddox took aim at his Republican rival U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam for backing offshore oil drilling While the six-month anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill occurred Oct. 20, very few Democrats brought up the solemn occasion. The Maddox campaign noted the anniversary and so did Heather Beaven, a Navy vet who is challenging Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. John Mica.
