New Floridian Mike Huckabee Recommends in GOP Primary

August 19, 2010 - 6:00pm

Using the new Florida chapter of his national PAC, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 and may again in 2012, sent an e-mail to supporters in the Sunshine State Friday afternoon, encouraging them to back candidates in Tuesdays primary elections.

As you may have read in the news, weve opened Huck PAC Florida because were committed to seeing conservatives elected throughout this great state at every level of government, wrote Huckabee, who moved to Florida earlier in the year.

Huckabee backed Attorney General Bill McCollum over Rick Scott in the gubernatorial primary.

Bills top priorities reside at the core of true conservatism: creating jobs, strengthening Floridas economy, cutting spending, lowering taxes and implementing significant tax reform, wrote Huckabee. Bill opposes Obamacare in fact, he is joined by 19 other states filing a lawsuit declaring 'penalizing individuals for failing to purchase insurance is unconstitutional.' Bill shares our traditional values and is a pro-life, pro-family conservative who received a 100 percent rating from the National Right to Life Committee during his time in Congress. Bill is also an advocate for our constitutional right to bear arms and will work tirelessly to stop any attempt to change that.

The former presidential candidate will hit the campaign trail with McCollum on Sunday, attending services with the attorney general at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

Huckabee also had warm words of praise for former House Speaker Marco Rubio, who is the overwhelming favorite to win the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate election.

I am excited and proud to be one of the early supporters of Marco Rubio, wrote Huckabee. Even when Marco was unknown and down 25 points, his potential was clear to me because Marco is a true conservative. Marco believes in smaller government. He is a firm supporter of life. As the former Florida speaker, he was incredibly effective at bringing new ideas to the table and working to see them passed into law.

Huckabee also backed Hernando County Sheriff Rich Nugent for the congressional seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite; former state senator and House Speaker Daniel Webster over a crowded Republican primary field to take on U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson; former Rep. Dennis Ross for the congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam who is running for state agriculture and consumer services commissioner; Karen Diebel over the rest of the Republican field to take on U.S. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas; and Rep. David Rivera of Miami for the congressional seat that U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart is vacating to run for the seat currently held by his brother Lincoln.

The former Arkansas governor also praised incoming Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island. As a pro-life legislator, Sen. Haridopolos also believes in low taxes and in tax simplification, wrote Huckabee. Lowering taxes was not just a campaign slogan or an empty promise.

Huckabee also backed Rep. Mike Horner, R-Kissimmee, who is facing a serious challenge in the Republican primary from Col. Thomas Chalifoux, a former member of the Osceola County School Board who tried to run for the seat in 2008 only to be taken off the ballot.

Mike is a true leader fighting Floridas problems and remaining true to his conservative family values, wrote Huckabee. Mike Horner understands the limited role government should play in our lives and our economy. I enthusiastically endorse him for re-election.
