Marijuana Tourism: Its Major Challenge and Promising Future

October 8, 2015 - 10:30am

The marijuana tourism industry is a burgeoning one with great potential because of its recent legalization. As the negative stigmas associated with marijuana use fade away, just about every tourist visiting Colorado and the other legalized states now curiously enters recreational marijuana storefronts to see what might catch his or her fancy. People who haven’t used marijuana in years or sometimes never before are now putting their inhibitions aside to try cannabis. Because of the overwhelming array of edibles, tinctures, topicals, and even transdermal patches available. people don’t even have to smoke to partake in the festivities. However, with marijuana moving into more industrialized facilities for massive-scale production, it is important that consumers seek out organically grown, pesticide-free marijuana that is cultivated with the end user in mind.

One of the cannabis tourism industry's major surprises is the fact that it has caused such little negative impact. With the laws in the state now allowing for possession of small amounts of cannabis, arrests have gone down, thus allowing police officers to focus on real criminals distributing truly harmful drugs like cocaine and heroin. Tax income from marijuana tourism is also a huge bonus, as it is being used to directly impact the legalized states in a positive fashion through education funding and infrastructure improvements. People are also now obtaining good paying jobs in grow facilities and dispensaries, entrepreneurial tourism start-ups, and ancillary companies that produce lighting, air conditioning units, and other needed instruments for the industry.

Marijuana tourism is a fantastic new industry filled with promise, but a slight issue is that although anyone 21 and older can purchase cannabis, there is virtually nowhere to use it. With so many people using marijuana in the state, I feel it is essential that we provide people with a safe option to consume it. That said, I think we will see a shift toward similarities with the wine industry. Enter the marijuana winery, complete with grow facility tours, educational seminars, and even samplings of different products. I believe this is the direction marijuana is headed and as time goes on, I hope we can offer a winery-type experience to showcase this plant that we are putting our hearts and souls into producing, similar to what winemakers have been doing for a very long time.

The legalization of pot in Washington, Oregon, D.C., and the other decriminalized states is an excellent indicator of marijuana’s bright future in the U.S. Not only is each new legalized state another tally mark toward federal prohibition ending, but it will also help support the declassification of marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug. Elected leaders are finally acknowledging their constituents, who overwhelmingly favor cannabis legalization and are increasingly supportive of recreational use as well. This is also encouraging other lawmakers and high-ranking officials to consider legislation to legalize and put political pressure on the federal government to reform cannabis laws.

Marijuana legalization is a benefit to our communities, as it is providing compassionate care for people who have a real need for its medicinal purposes, as well as tax income for education funding and infrastructure improvements. Likewise, cannabis legalization is also providing new, excellent-paying jobs at dispensaries, grow houses, and more to help boost the legalized states’ economies.

Can see Florida lawmakers reading this blog, then getting together with all the sheriffs planning ways to chum the waters off all the waters off Florida's coast lines for more Sharks.

Phooey on doctors deciding what's good for me, Florida doctors already over medicating citizens with chemicals. This is a good blog and finally some common sense on marijuana usage. What one does on ones property is ones business. Be responsible and use marijuana responsibly.

Very few could grow enough for medical use and... if purchased for medical use there are no taxes. That could well be money saved for those with not much cash to spare. In Florida all purchases made with a Doctor's script are taxfree, even such items a a whirlpool tub. Understand ?

Legalizing it will do 1 great thing fla, the world needs most, get many addicted people off alcohol, the most dangerous drug by far.--------------------------------------- And many other addicts would move to pot if legal.-------------------------------------------------- Pot is the only drug I know where you wake up refreshed, ready to go.---------------------------- Nor does it make people violent like alcohol, meth, cocaine, heroin, pain drugs, etc, Just that alone I worth legalizing pot. ------------------------------------------------ This would cut Police, court, jail costs by 20%, maybe 40% as addicts switch over.----------------------------------- I wouldn't go edibles, etc as leads to overdosing, children getting into it. Just allow smoking and vaping of natural pot.

Really? A pro-cannabis posting on SSN? Seems like I have entered the twilight zone. Yet, Florida and Patients will benefit form having legal Medical Cannabis. Florida will benefit from legal cannabis. Of course, the elected idiots in Tally will do their best to destroy it. Just look how they have done Charlottes Web, the legal medical cannabis Florida is supposed to have, yet, over 2 years and not a single dose delivered. Legal Medical Cannabis now. Let the Doctors decide who needs it and how they use it. ForThePatients!
