Named to the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee earlier this month as he began his second term, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., announced on Tuesday he will serve on five of its subcommittees.
Rubio will serve on the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee which is chaired by U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D.
“My role on the Appropriations Committee will give me the opportunity to influence all aspects of the federal budget, and I am excited to be named to these five important subcommittees,” said Rubio. “These assignments will better position my office to serve Floridians even more effectively, particularly as it relates to our state’s military bases, rebuilding our national defense, serving our veterans, safeguarding our nation’s food supply, and advancing our foreign policy interests around the world. With a multitude of diverse but critical issues facing the people of Florida, today’s announcement is another step forward in delivering results on their behalf.”
Florida’s junior senator will also sit on the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee which is led by U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo. Rubio also gained a spot on the smallest of the Senate Appropriations subcommittees as he was named to U.S. Sen. James Lankford’s, R-Okla., Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee.
With a seat on the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, it’s no surprise that Rubio ended up on the Senate State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Subcommittee. Rubio will find a close ally wielding the gavel there as U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC, chairs the subcommittee.
Rubio will also serve on the Senate Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee which is chaired by U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan.
On all five of the subcommittees, Rubio will be the lowest ranked Republican in terms of seniority.
