President Donald Trump could be making a third trip down to his “Winter White House” this weekend, and Floridians are already gearing up to make their dissatisfaction over his presidency and policies known.
Thousands of protesters leapt at the information and quickly scrambled to plan to rally against Trump as he rolls through town once more. On Monday, South Florida Activism announced it was planning a third rally to “stand against hatred and bigotry.”
Earlier Monday afternoon, Federal Aviation Authority pilots were advised of travel restrictions affecting the Palm Beach area, which led many to speculate President Trump would be making yet another trip to shade himself by the palm trees at Mar-A-Lago.
Sunshine and relaxation won't be the only things welcoming Trump to South Florida -- hordes of protesters will also be there, following Trump's every move.
“Perhaps he didn't hear us the first two times, so we must be exceedingly clear in our message,” the group wrote on Facebook.
The demonstrators have gathered in Palm Beach for two weekends in a row and aren’t showing signs of losing steam anytime soon.
The group will not be marching this time, however. They have no plans to wave signs. They will not shout. Instead, their tactic will be simple.
When Trump’s motorcade speeds down Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach, they will turn their backs, revealing a singular message pinned to the backs of their shirts.
“No.”
Star Fae, who runs South Florida Activism, told Sunshine State News the short phrase was perfect for protesters criticizing the Trump administration.
“For different people it means different things,” she said. “Each of us has an issue that is close to our hearts that drives us to make our voices heard. For some of us it might be no pipeline, no wall, no ban…[it could be]any number of things.”
While their list of grievances may be lengthy, Fae told SSN their goals were the same.
“What’s important is that we realize we have a common enemy, and whatever our pet issue, we need to come together on these issues,” she explained.
South Florida Activism and the Women’s March Florida Chapter have been organizing events since November, but the groups picked up speed once Trump flew the D.C. coop and headed to warmer weather in Mar-A-Lago, a 111,000 thousand square foot house which is home to a lavish members-only club in one of the wealthiest cities in the nation.
The first protest gathered around 3,000 rallygoers who marched to Mar-A-Lago earlier this month. Over the weekend, the demonstrators once again lined the streets as Trump drove by after meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Trump acknowledged the “big crowds,” but it was unclear over whether or not he actually believed the protesters were actually his supporters rather than critics.
“Big crowds of enthusiastic supporters lining the road that the FAKE NEWS media refuses to mention,” Trump tweeted Sunday. “Very dishonest!”
Full details of the event have not yet been finalized, but the protest is currently scheduled for Friday evening.
