Lois Frankel Rises in the Women's Caucus

January 8, 2015 - 6:00pm

The Congressional Caucus for Womens Issues named their leadership team on Friday and a Florida congresswoman will be part of it.

The caucus, formed in 1977 with members of both parties, chose U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., and U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui, D-Calif., to co-chair the caucus. U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks, R-Ind., will be the Republican vice chair with U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, D-Fla., as her Democratic counterpart.

Our nation is at a crossroads. We need to start pointing to solutions, not pointing blame, and as moms, businesswomen and experienced multitaskers, we are solution-oriented, Noem said on Friday. It is an honor to serve with Congresswoman Matsui as a co-chair of the Congressional Caucus for Womens Issues for the 114th Congress and I am looking forward to working with this incredible group of bipartisan congresswomen to empower girls and women and improve the lives of all Americans.

I am honored to be elected as a co-chair of the Congressional Caucus for Womens Issues for the 114th Congress, said Matsui. It is always a pleasure to work with my fellow women members of Congress. Women know how to get things done, and I believe our experiences give us common ground to work from regardless of political party in order to pass strong, bipartisan legislation. I look forward to working closely with Congresswoman Noem and our biggest class of women members yet to advance issues that matter most to women and our country.

Starting her second term this week, Frankel offered a similar tone, playing down partisanship even though she has been prominent with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) during her two years in Congress.

For more than 30 years, the Womens Caucus has championed womens issues in our country and around the globe putting aside partisanship and embracing collaboration, said Frankel. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to improve the lives of women and families.

With 15 new faces having been sworn in this week, the caucus currently contains 88 members. The caucus has focused on issues regarding womens health, economic opportunities and protecting women from domestic abuse and sexual assault.
