U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, D-Fla., will be one of the two new co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues when the 115th Congress launches next month.

Frankel will team up with U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks, R-Ind., to lead the caucus. In 2015 and 2016, Frankel and Brooks served as the co-vice chairs of the caucus.

Last week, Frankel and Brooks announced they would lead the caucus for the next two years. U.S. Reps. Mimi Walters, R-Calif., and Brenda Lawrence, D-Mich., will replace them as vice-co chairs.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues on finding common ground and advocating issues important to the advancement of women and girls,” Frankel said.

“The Congressional Women’s Caucus is an important, bipartisan forum to discuss major policy issues of our day with a focus on how these issues impact women and families,” Brooks said. “In the past, this caucus has been a driving force for a strong Violence Against Women Act and for the Children’s Health Insurance Program. There is more work to be done, and I’m proud to have been selected by my colleagues to serve as co-chair with my friend, Congresswoman Lois Frankel. Together, we will work with our colleagues as strong advocates for women and families in the upcoming Congress.”

The caucus, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year, has focused on issues regarding womens health, economic opportunities and protecting women from domestic abuse and sexual assault.

First elected to Congress in 2012, Frankel has been active in Florida politics for decades, including leading Democrats in the state House and serving two terms as mayor of  West Palm Beach. During her time in Washington, Frankel served on the Foreign Affairs and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees and has risen up the ranks with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).
