The Light of Truth is Stronger than the Darkness of Terror

March 25, 2016 - 9:30am

This weekend, Christians of every denomination remember the most transformative event in history – Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection – the ultimate sacrifice that redeemed the whole world.

The light of Christ brings hope to every corner of the world. This year Heidi and I pray that in the wake of the Brussels attack, as we mourn for the victims who lost their lives in the subway tunnels and airport corridors at the hands of baseless terrorists, we will remember that the light of truth is stronger than the darkness of terror.

I am reminded of Saint John Paul II’s first return to Poland as Pope. In 1979, upon his arrival, he kissed the tarmac. And the dust that had all but covered the churches ruptured as the bells rang out – one after another. Soon millions of people lined the streets.

And when Saint John Paul II addressed the crowds before the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, he spoke these immortal words: “On how many battlefields has that soldier given witness to the rights of man, indelibly inscribed in the inviolable rights of the people, by falling for ‘our freedom and yours!’”

And he asked for the Lord’s blessing upon the land:

“Let your Spirit descend.
And renew the face of the earth,
the face of this land.”

That is the redemption message. By His sacrifice we are made new. And as we remember the gift of salvation on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, let us be so bold to ask the same.

We face a different enemy than in 1979 – but one with the same goal – to snuff out the light of freedom. But we also know that just like Communism in 1980 it can be defeated because good overcomes evil, truth illuminates the world, and freedom breaks the bondage of tyranny.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is currently running for the Republican presidential nomination.

Senator Cruise' message is one of love, respect and thankfulness. I thank God for all of his blessings and may he also bless those who respond to this story. Easter is a time for joy. Instead you write hatred,

Ted Cruz is a bitter man because he's not being given any chance of actually being a President! He's a liar, a cheat, a coward, and worse, a real politician! He deserves horse whipping, but the embarrassment in losing to Trump should take away ANY credibility he may have had. GO TRUMP!!

Why are you printing an article by a man who claims to be a Christian, yet lied and cheated to get votes. Who has also had multiple affairs outside his marriage. One affair can be a mistake, 5 affairs is a pattern. Do we really want another Bill Clinton in the White House?? I am angry that you printed this "self-righteous" piece by man whose wife cannot trust him . . .therefore, how can we??

We forgive you for your "Bill Clinton transgressions" Ted; and we forgive "jerryd" for his inbred ignorance and stupidity (it is rumored that his father was a Progressive Democrat politician).

What a crock!! Cruz has done far more damage to the US than terrorists ever will by clogging up the Senate. He wants the government, church in every vagina and telling what to do in every part of our lives.--------------------------------------- He wants to bring the lies/religion which is just made up stories to control people and he made pope. Just ask his father!!------------------------------------------------------------------------------- He is hated by so many because he is an azzhole. No one in the Senate likes him says volumes and only getting most of his votes because the other, Trump, is even a bigger azzhole!! ------------------------------------ Boy repubs have really did it this time. But you made your bed, now bend over so they can do you again. So what now losers?
