Broadening both reach and expertise, The James Madison Institute announced Wednesday the launch of a new policy center, JMI’s Center for Technology and Telecommunications.
The policy center, which will focus on issues such as tech privacy, 21st century transportation infrastructure, broadband deployment, and the future of work, will be housed out of the Tallahassee headquarters of JMI. Christopher Koopman, senior director of research at The Center for Growth and Opportunity at Utah State University, will serve as the adjunct director of the JMI Policy Center and as a senior fellow with JMI.
In a written press statement, JMI said that during 2019 and moving into 2020, its Center for Technology and Telecommunications will provide meaningful and practical policy ideas in several different formats and approaches, including:
- A dedicated web platform for short-form communications and dialogue covering several topics related to Florida policy issues
- Major policy research studies
- Events for policymakers, stakeholders, and the public to better inform and educate on opportunities and challenges on the horizon
“As the technological revolution continues to advance globally, it is imperative that Florida positions itself as a welcoming home for innovation, entrepreneurship and progress," explained Sal Nuzzo, JMI's vice president of policy. "That requires a commitment to sound public policies that embrace free markets, promote a long-term vision, and ensure global leadership. We are excited to partner with Christopher Koopman and his research team at The Center for Growth and Opportunity to build this policy center and engage both policymakers and the public.”
