Businessman and former police officer Jeff Moran ended his bid for the Republican nomination to replace retiring Congresswoman Gwen Graham and threw his support to Ken Sukhia on Thursday.

Moran, who owns a custom car business in High Springs which has made cars for a host of prominent people ranging from Pope Benedict XVI to actor Dan Akroyd to football legend Emmitt Smith, jumped in the race back in February. During his time on the campaign trail, Moran showcased his conservatism, including opposition to Common Core and abortion and calling for the enforcement of immigration laws on the books.

In announcing the launch of his campaign, Moran pledged to be a “conservative and common sense voice in Washington DC” if elected. North Florida Republican Congressman Ted Yoho, who represented some of the eastern parts of the district before the latest round of redistricting, had endorsed Moran.

But Moran ended his bid at a media event in Tallahassee on Thursday morning, endorsing Sukhia, a Tallahassee attorney who served as a  U.S. attorney under President George H.W. Bush.  Panama City physician Dr. Neal Dunn and Tallahassee attorney Mary Thomas are also running for the Republican nomination.

"Spending as much time on the campaign trail as I have, you get to know the other candidates pretty well,” Moran said as he bowed out. “I’ve gotten to know Ken Sukhia, and I’m endorsing him today because of his personal integrity. His actions match his words. He has such a passion for conservative causes, there is no doubt in my mind that he will go to Washington and fight with integrity for all of us.”

“I am humbled by Jeff Moran’s support and pledge to live up to his endorsement. During this campaign, Jeff has outlined a common sense approach to solving the nation’s problems, something sorely missing in Washington,” said Sukhia who also has the support of Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama. “Last week’s terrorist attack in Orlando highlighted the urgent need for Congress to act to keep America safe. When elected, ending the threat of radical Islamic terrorism will be my number one priority. It’s a fight we must win.”

Steve Crapps from Live Oak has qualified to run as a Democrat while Rob Fields is running on the Libertarian line in this GOP-leaning district.

Ken's a great guy - definitely the most qualified of the three remaining candidates and someone who will represent the district with honesty and integrity.

ANOTHER LAWYER ?!?!?...NOoooo!... Oh Well !... I suppose ANYONE will be better than the useless, nepotistic Gwen Graham (who, like Obama, believed that "Sanctuary Cities" should be funded by CITIZEN TAXPAYERS ! )

Just what the GOP needs, another 65 year old establishment white male. He will fight right in.
