Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clintons team made it official Sunday: she is making a second run for the Democratic presidential nomination.
News broke last week that Clinton would run for the presidency in 2016, and she is expected to head to Iowa, home of the first caucus, in the coming days. Clinton holds a commanding lead in the polls over her potential Democratic rivals with Vice President Joe Biden usually in distant second and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., in third.
John Podesta, who served as White House chief of staff under President Bill Clinton, sent out an email to supporters on Sunday in which he confirmed the official launch to the new presidential campaign.
"I wanted to make sure you heard it first from me -- it's official: Hillary's running for president, Podesta wrote.
The Republican National Committee (RNC) looked to make a pre-emptive strike, unveiling a new Web video as it launched its #StopHillary campaign on Friday.
From the East Wing to the State Department, Hillary Clinton has left a trail of secrecy, scandal and failed liberal policies that no image consultant can erase, said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. Voters want to elect someone they can trust and Hillary's record proves that she cannot be trusted. We must 'stop Hillary.'
The RNC will be launching an online effort in key swing states, including Florida.
With 2016 being a possible dynastic rematch of the 1992 election, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush tried to rally conservatives against the new candidate on Sunday.
Moments ago Hillary Clinton officially announced her White House bid -- and its up to us to stop her, Bush emailed supporters on Sunday. Im going to be straightforward with you, this isnt going to be easy. Hillary plans to raise $1.7 billion to win the White House and she already has 135,000 donors at the ready.
Slamming Clintons liberal agenda, Bush added America cant afford to suffer another four years of Democrat control.
Eight years of Democrat control has already done untold damage, four more years of Clinton control will only make it worse, Bush insisted. This is going to be a long fight, but together, we will stop her.
