I guess we should have expected it.
What I mean by “it” is the latest round of attacks against Andrew Gillum, or anyone supporting him.
The latest Gravis Marketing poll has Gillum leading the other Democratic candidates.
Gasp! Clutch your pearls, folks.
Something MUST be written to try to slow the momentum of Andrew Gillum. His performance in the debates and forums can’t be matched by ANY of the other candidates.
As noted earlier, Gwen Graham is like watching paint dry. If she wins the nomination, there is a sizable group of Democrats who will NEVER vote for her. Ever.
Philip Levine is like that used car salesman you KNOW is feeding you a line.
Chris King is likeable, but he isn’t going to have people waiting in line for hours to vote for him, a la Barack Obama.
Guess who will? Andrew Gillum.
That is scaring the bejeezus out of some people.
Clearly.
Since the Gravis poll surfaced, showing the PEOPLE are beginning to favor Gillum, the media are losing their collective crap.
I use "collective," because the latest hit is surrounding Collective PAC, the group that ran ads highlighting Gwen Graham’s questionable record in Congress.
Now, let’s not harp on the fact that said media don't want to question Graham’s congressional voting record.
Let’s not harp on the fact that said media don't want to question past statements made by Graham about whether she is, or is not, a progressive.
Let’s not focus on the fact that said media treat this woman as if she can’t be vetted like Andrew Gillum seems to be vetted.
Like, for instance, why is it that people who either consider running against her or actually run against her, end up in FBI investigations?
Jackie Pons, anyone?
It’s a known fact that black Democratic candidates do NOT get the same support from the Democratic Party.
It’s a known fact that black Democratic voters do NOT get the same support from the Florida Democratic Party.
Now, what we are seeing here in Florida, is that black Democratic candidates will get slapped down by the media if they DARE step out of their lane.
Well, here is what I say:
If Collective PAC wants to help level the playing field, go for it. If any other organizations out there have the ability to do the same thing, step right on up.
Dark money, light money, pink or purple money.
Access to money has always been the way black candidates have been held down. I guess it would be scary for some to see THAT barrier being taken away.
Andrew Gillum appeals to the people, and thankfully, the people are beginning to see that they don’t HAVE to settle for the status quo just because the status quo is part of the 1 percent.
It’s unfortunate that there aren’t more black political writers in mainstream Florida to balance out the obvious bias against Gillum.
It truly makes a difference.
