Florida's the Home of the Top Two Spring Break Destinations

February 28, 2018 - 6:00am

With spring break around the corner, Florida is set to shine as the state is host to the two most popular destinations for Americans looking to get away from the cold weather.

AAA released a study on Tuesday showing Orlando and Fort Lauderdale are the two most popular spring break destinations followed by Honolulu, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Cancun. Miami also ranked high, placing eight on the list.

Vicky Evans, the assistant vice president for travel sales development for AAA and the Auto Club Group weighed in on why Florida was so popular for spring break travels.

“Florida is a perfect spring break destination for people traveling with family or friends,” Evans said. “Travelers love Florida for its warm weather, world-famous attractions, beautiful beaches, and its array of AAA Diamond Rated hotels and restaurants that fit any budget.

“Hawaii and Mexico, which are also favorite hot spots for spring breakers, are even more popular this year,” Evans continued. “After last year’s hurricanes struck the Eastern Caribbean, travelers turned to Hawaii and Mexico, as alternatives. Fortunately, the Eastern Caribbean has recovered and travel providers are offering incentives to get people back into the region.”

AAA also showcased a poll taken in October which found that 55 percent of Floridians  will take a vacation of at least three days in spring and 80 percent of millennials from the Sunshine State will hit the road for spring break.

“Spring break is not just for college kids who want to party on the beach,” Evans said. “This is often the first chance of the year when the entire family can take a break and go somewhere together. The popularity of this time of year leads to reduced availability and higher prices, but using a trusted travel advisor can be beneficial in finding options to meet your needs.”

The poll of 401 Florida adults that Evans cited was taken from Oct. 10-Oct. 30 and had a margin of error of +/- 5.4 percent.
