The Florida Police Benevolent Association (PBA), which represents more than 28,000 law enforcement and correctional officers across the Sunshine State, announced its endorsements in the gubernatorial race on Wednesday.
The PBA threw its support behind Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam for the Republican gubernatorial nod. Other Republicans running in the primary include U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis and Republican Liberty Caucus of Florida leader Bob White. State House Speaker Richard Corcoran, R-Lutz, is also a possible candidate.
"The men and women of law enforcement and corrections are proud supporters of Commissioner Adam Putnam for Florida governor," Florida PBA President John Rivera said. "His trust and confidence in law enforcement throughout his distinguished career is unparalleled. He is a true champion of public service who understands the sacrifices. We are grateful for his support and proud to endorse Adam Putnam for governor."
"I am proud to have the support of the men and women of the Florida Police Benevolent Association," said Putnam. "As governor, I’ll work every day to make Florida first in the nation. I want Florida to be the first choice for Americans to launch their careers, start their businesses and raise their families. Yet, none of this can happen without the brave public servants that dedicate their lives to protecting and serving Florida’s citizens and visitors.
"Public safety is the foundation of our society, and as governor, I will put Florida first by continuing to support the brave men and women who wear a uniform each day and go to work to protect our great state,” Putnam added.
The PBA backed former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham for the Democratic nomination over former Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum and businessman Chris King.
“Gwen Graham is a true champion for the brave men and women of law enforcement and corrections,” said John Rivera. “She understands our service, along with our sacrifices and we are confident in her ability to unite the citizens of Florida. We are very proud to endorse our friend Gwen Graham for governor."
Graham noted that her husband Steve Hurm has been aa sworn Florida law enforcement officer for more than three decades.
“As the wife of a sworn law enforcement officer, I understand how devoted the men and women of the PBA are to protecting communities across Florida,” Graham said. “I am proud to have their endorsement and as governor, I will work to support Florida law enforcement and strengthen the relationships between police and the communities they protect."
