Florida Lottery Scratch-Off Tickets Haul in $12.2 Million for Education in One Week

The Florida lottery experienced another record-breaking week of sales in scratch-off tickets, with more than $12.2 million of the proceeds going to education.

Sales of scratch-off ticketstotaledmore than $65.3 million for the week ending Feb. 24, 2013, which exceeded the previous weeks record of $64.7 million, according to the Florida lottery. The sales totals in each week were the largest recorded in aweek since the lotterys 25-year life.

Another record sales week means another win for education in Florida, said Florida lottery Secretary Cynthia OConnell. The lotterys sole mission is to maximize revenue for education, and we will remain focused on that mission by continuing to offer new and exciting games that will help generate enthusiasm among our players and grow revenues for education in our state.

Florida's Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF)will receive more than $12.2 million from the record sales.Scratch-off games generated more than $495 million for the EETF in fiscal year 2011-12.

Last week's sales were led by the Millionaire scratch-off tickets, which garnered $9.7 million. The newly launched Life Family of tickets accounted for 22 percent of the sales.Scratch-off tickets are an important component of the Florida lottery, accounting for 58 percent of ticket sales.

Celebrating 25 years in Florida, the lottery has contributed more than $24 billion to Florida's students and education since it began, according to the agency.
