U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., hasn’t officially entered the race yet to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., but a conservative Republican isn’t waiting for him.
Retired Navy Capt. Brian Frazier, who served 25 years on active duty, has launched a bid for the Republican nomination to replace Miller. Calling the Panhandle home since the late 1970s and now based in Gulf Breeze, Frazier was in naval aviation and served in Afghanistan, Croatia, Iraq and other hot spots around the globe.
Frazier calls for limited government and, at his campaign website, approvingly quotes libertarian thinkers F.A. Hayek and Ludwig von Mises and the Founding Fathers.
"We don't need fundamental transformation,” Frazier noted on his campaign website. “We need to get back to fundamentals. Our founders blessed us with the most important and powerful document the world has ever known and gave us directions on how to use it. We must respect the Constitution of the United States of America as the law of our land and get back to the core values that have made our country the most prosperous, most powerful, most inclusive and most fair country in the history of the world. We must have representation that will stand up and speak out for these values. I am ready to represent Florida District 1 in leading the effort to put the citizens of this country back in charge of their government."
Frazier supports term limits and will join the Term Limit Caucus if he is elected. He also backs Second Amendment rights and expanding free-market solutions for the economy.
Miller is expected to make a decision about entering the Senate race next month. If Miller enters the Senate race, Frazier can expect serious competition in the primary for one of the most secure Republican seats in the nation. Former Florida Senate President Don Gaetz, R-Destin, and state Sen. Greg Evers, R-Pensacola, are potential candidates if Miller decides to run for the Senate instead of another term in the House.
