U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., is calling on U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to allow more companies to research how Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) can be used for medicinal purposes.

Noting that the federal Drug Enforcement Agency had approved plans for Tilray, a company based out of British Columbia, to import CBD and THC for studies on how to treat nerve pain, Curbelo called on the U.S. Department of Justice to get out of the way of domestic companies trying to do the same thing.

“Allowing a Canadian company to do what American companies are still waiting on the Department of Justice to grant them permission to do is incomprehensible,” Curbelo said on Wednesday. “The United States has countless companies, including several in my home state of Florida, that are well-equipped to provide high quality cannabis extracts, but they are being roadblocked by Attorney General Jeff Sessions’  senseless witch hunt against an entire industry of legal, state-regulated small businesses.

“With this announcement, the attorney general and the Department of Justice’s arcane prohibition on researching the effects of cannabis are now complicit in shipping American jobs and dollars abroad,” Curbelo added.

The South Florida Republican, who sits on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, called on Congress to act and applauded how it was rallying behind a proposal form U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla..

“Congress can and must act. I’m pleased that just last week the House Judiciary Committee passed H.R.5634, the Medical Cannabis Research Act, of which I am a proud cosponsor, to require the Justice Department to issue at least two more licenses to U.S. facilities to grow cannabis for research. I am hopeful that this bill will be considered on the House floor as soon as possible, and I urge my colleagues to support its passage. American jobs are at stake,” Curbelo said.

Why is it that the naysayers have all fallen behind the slogan "we need to study this more", yet when it come time to study it they say nay. Don't forget, when it becomes legal, you do not have to smoke it, nobody will force you to inhale.

Jeff Sessions is nothing more than a white supremacist trying to put down the resistance any way he can. Jeff said “I thought the KKK were OK until I found out some of them smoked pot.” and “Good people don't smoke marijuana.” Sessions statements show his support for the Klu Klux Klan while he ignores scientific data from the Center for Disease Control which clearly points out that cannabis is safer than alcoholic beverages or tobacco products. The takeaway from this is that Sessions supports white supremacists and refuses acknowledge the facts when making decisions that affect the entire nation. According to Sessions nobody listed below is a good person. A short list of highly successful cannabis consumers: Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Sir Richard Branson, Barack Obama, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Clinton, Stephen Colbert, Katy Perry, LeBron James, Jay Z, George Soros, Michael Phelps, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, Seth Green, Rush Limbaugh, Andrew Cuomo, George W. Bush, Seth MacFarlane, George Clooney, Lady Gaga, Ted Turner, Brad Pitt, Rihanna, Whoopi Goldberg, Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie, Conan O’Brien, Martha Stewart, Gov. Charlie Baker (MA), Francis Crick, Tom Brokaw, Michael Bloomberg, Justin Timberlake, Aaron Sorkin, Glenn Beck, Al Gore, Matt Damon, Susan Sarandon, Madonna, Robert Downey Jr., Phil Jackson, Rick Steves, Jennifer Lawrence, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Hugh Hefner, Maureen Dowd, Willie Nelson, 95% of the NBA and 75% of the NFL

The US government has been lying to Citizens all along. Data from the Center for Disease Control proves that cannabis is far safer than alcoholic beverages or tobacco products. Based on that fact alone recreational Cannabis should be completely legal. Cannabis prohibition has absolutely nothing to do with Public Safety and everything to do with corrupt politicians who are bending over for giant International corporations for pharmaceutical drugs, private prisons and alcoholic beverages which are scared witless that cannabis legalization will ruin their multi-billion-dollar deadly addictive Stranglehold on the US public.

The U.S. Federal government's stance on cannabis is a blatant bold-faced lie. More evidence comes out every day proving that cannabis is much safer than alcoholic beverages or tobacco products. The DEA “drug schedule” has absolutely nothing to do with public safety and everything to do with politics and government corruption. The DEA states that cannabis is more dangerous than Methamphetamine, Cocaine or Fentanyl!! Tobacco and Alcohol are not even on the DEA drug schedule. * SCHEDULE 1 (the most dangerous drugs) Heroin, LSD, Marijuana (cannabis), MDA (ecstasy) * SCHEDULE 2 (supposedly less dangerous than cannabis) Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Oxycodone, Fentanyl, Dexedrine. * SCHEDULE 3 (supposedly less dangerous than cannabis) Tylenol with codeine, Ketamine, Anabolic steroids, Testosterone. Now compare the DEA drug schedule with figures directly from the CDC on numbers of deaths per year in the USA: * Prescription Drugs: 237,485 + 5,000 traffic fatalities * Tobacco: 480,000 * Alcohol: 88,013 + 16,000 traffic fatalities * Cocaine: 4,906 * Heroin: 7,200 * Aspirin: 466 * Acetaminophen (Tylenol): 179 * Marijuana: 0, none, not a single fatal toxic overdose and almost no history of traffic problems. The madness is over, Legalize recreational cannabis nationwide!

Kinda funny after all these years that a Republican is actually promoting pot! Of course, as is everything Republican, it's just about the money to be made!

Carlos, if you were serious about half your election eve conversions, you would become an Independent who caucuses with the Republicans. But, having seen your brief speech in front of the Ways and Means committee in a hearing on a second tax cut provision, you are playing games. Deficits don't matter, unless they are caused by Democrats.

Carlos taking up dem causes won't help as we all know he is going to vote repub for the 1%, corporations. …………….Though he is right in this case...………...And all marijuana needs to be legal so it can cut opioid , etc drug, alcohol deaths it has clearly shown to do as well as cutting DUIs with the safest drug ever that has never had a poisoning death, mostly just a bad case of the munchies.

Jeff Sessions can not help you because deep state Obama/Hillary holdovers have taken over his brain. Trump is planning on reprograming Jeff's brain just as soon as Pam Bondi finishes her Florida job and takes over Jeff's job anyway.

Wow! How much of that Kool-Aid did you drink?

A true leftist lacks a sense of humor.

Blame it on Obama’s birth certificate, blame it on Obama's religion, blame it on Obama's dog, blame it on illegal immigrants, blame it on anyone but pathological liar and blatant racist bigot little Donny Trump who promised us: “I will build a wall and Mexico would pay for it”, “I will eliminate ISIS in my first 100 days in office”, “I will release my tax returns”, “I will not be a president who takes vacations”, “I will have a report on Russian hacking in my first 90 days”... all just more trump lies!

ROTFLMAO!!!!! Thanks I needed a laugh. Though Bondi getting the job wouldn't a be surprise and she can keep on losing nearly every case because her side is un constitutional, getting thown out by the right wing SCoFl even she is so out of it...………….. A did she ever finish all those rape kits and where are all the arrests from it?. ………...She like Trump, is incompetent.
