From Bradenton: Hometown Lowdown on Sen. Bennett

May 6, 2010 - 6:00pm

Video Transcript:

(Lane Wright intro)
"Since the news broke earlier this week about Senator Mike Bennett and some of the questionable images and videos that were on his laptop while he was on the senate floor, there have been a lot of comments both online with the stories, but also reaction from Bradenton--part of the senator's district."

(Maria Luviano/Bradenton Resident)
"I think it's no good."

Maria Luviano was just one of many Bradenton residents who had heard the story, but hadn't seen the video, until now.

(Luviano)
"He's supposed to be listening what they're telling him. Not watching those videos."

(Ivonne Morales/Bradenton Resident)
Ivonne: I thought it was crazy. He shouldn't be looking at stuff like that.
Reporter: Do you think he's living up to his expectations as a senator, like your senator?
Ivonne: Of course not. Of course not.

On the second to last day of the legislative session, a Sunshine State News camera captured Senator Mike Bennett with a racy photo on his laptop.

(Joe Cadena/Bradenton Resident)
"It was a sort of a shock. But then you know as I read the newspaper article in the Bradenton Herald
"I think that it literally did pop up."

Bennett claims it was a personal email from a friend. He said it subject line that made him think it was about government business. Still, that doesn't explain why he also opened a video file of a dog a few minutes prior, and if he though that too was related to his work as a Senator.

Reporter: Have you actually seen the video?
Cadena: No, no, no I have not seen the video.
Reporter: Here, let me show you this.

You can see Joe Cadena's reaction as I showed him the video.

Reporter: Does that change your opinion or anything or is it still the same?
Cadena: Oh, boy well, (long pause) I don't know. I can't judge the man. Because of course I don't, I don't hang around him, you know what I mean? That's basically it, uh, It's an image."
