Overnight, Dwight Bullard's political future went from rags to riches when Bernie Sanders, next to Barack Obama probably the most powerful Democrat in America, put out a call for Miami-Dade Dems to vote for the former state senator for county committeeman.

Sanders, defeated by Hillary Clinton after a strong showing in the primary, used the heft of his Florida email list, under OurRevolution.com, to contact all parties eligible to vote on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Bullard told Sunshine State News he was humbled by Sanders' strong backing. "It's an honor to once again have the support of Sen. Bernie Sanders and Our Revolution as we both work to return the Democratic Party to the people," he said Tuesday night.

In his email to Florida supporters, Sanders calls Bullard "the Bernie delegate and Our Revolution-endorsed candidate for state Senate who is running for state committeeman."

Here's the full text of what Sanders had to say, walking Democrats through the party voting process:

"Run for Miami-Dade Precinct Captain. An extremely wealthy donor wants to buy his way to lead Florida's Democratic Party, and the only thing between him and control of the party is our political revolution.

"Here's where you come in: we need people like you in Miami-Dade County to become precinct chairs and vote for Dwight Bullard on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

"As a Precinct Captain You Can ...

  • "Elect Florida Democratic Party officers, such as Dwight Bullard, the Bernie delegate and Our Revolution-endorsed candidate for State Senate who is running for state committeeman. You would also be able to vote for officers such as the chair, vice chairs, outreach chair, secretary and treasurer.
  • "Have a voice in the endorsement process of Democratic nominees in your state.
  • "Work to keep communication flowing between voters and their party officials.
  • "Have access to the tools and resources you need to keep voters in your precinct up to date and registered to vote.

"There Are Several Steps to This, but It's Overall Easy. This is what you need to do:

  1. "Download and complete this one-page form.
  2. "Email the completed form to credentials@miamidadedems.org by 12 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15.
  3. "You'll hear back soon from the county party about your application.
  4. "Attend the Miami-Dade County Democratic Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m.

Tuesday December 20
Clinton HQ in Wynwood
2215 NW 1 Place
Miami, FL 33127
Registration will begin at 6 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7 p.m.

"5. Vote for Dwight Bullard for county committeeman."

Bullard had hoped to win Miami-Dade election as Democratic Executive Committee vice chair. But on Dec. 6 he was disqualified when Juan Cuba won the race for chair. Rules state that if a male wins the chair race, then the vice chair must be female. Bullard later was nominated county committeeman from the floor.

After the November election, Sanders kept on working. He launched his website with this announcement: "Our Revolution will reclaim democracy for the working people of our country by harnessing the transformative energy of the 'political revolution.' Through supporting a new generation of progressive leaders, empowering millions to fight for progressive change and elevating the political consciousness, Our Revolution will transform American politics to make our political and economic systems once again responsive to the needs of working families."
