Beltway Democrats Double Down on Annette Taddeo But NRCC Notes She Still Isn't Living in CD 26

Beltway Democrats continue to climb on former Miami-Dade Democratic Party Chairwoman Annette Taddeo’s bandwagon but Republicans continue to note that she isn’t from the South Florida district where she is running for Congress.

Taddeo continued to showcase the support of Beltway Democrats as she continues to run against U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla. At the end of June, Taddeo’s campaign sent out fundraising emails from prominent national Democrats including U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelsoi, D-Calif.; U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, D-N.M., the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC); former Gov. Charlie Crist; and Democratic strategist Paul Begala. Last year, when he was the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Crist chose Taddeo as his running mate.

On Tuesday, Begala went to bat for Taddeo.

“Annette is a true public servant -- someone who fights for every single person in her district,” Begala insisted. “Meanwhile, her opponent Rep. Carlos Curbelo is a former lobbyist, gets big checks from the Koch brothers, and has called Social Security a Ponzi scheme!

"This race will come down to the wire and is an incredible pickup opportunity for Florida Democrats,” Begala added.

But while Begala claimed Taddeo “fights for every single person in her district,” the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) noted on Tuesday that she doesn’t even live in it, pointing out that she took her home off the market.

“Rember back in April when millionaire Annette Taddeo, a self-proclaimed member of the middle class, announced her campaign for Congress in FL-26?" the NRCC asked on Tuesday. “She said she was going to move out of her ritzy 6,500-square -foot mansion (complete with six bedrooms, five bathrooms, a fireplace and an in-ground swimming pool) self-assessed at $1.25 million and into the actual congressional district she wants to represent. That still hasn’t happened.

“Here’s five theories as to why,” the NRCC continued. “One: she was flat out lying about moving, like when she lied on national television about being middle class. Two: she was too tired to call a Realtor, like when she was too tired to call into a local radio show after a cumulative total of seven hours on the campaign trail. Three: she was focused on having the wildly unpopular Nancy Pelosi fundraise on her behalf. Four: she was too busy bragging on Twitter about how the DCCC chairman would ‘rake in campaign cash’ for her at a high-end fundraiser. Five: she is already thinking ahead to the next seat she’s going to run for because she knows she doesn’t stand a chance against Carlos Curbelo in 2016, just like all of her other campaigns"

“If Annette Taddeo is really going to move into the 26th District like she promised, maybe she should start by actually putting her mansion on the market,” noted Chris Pack, a spokesman for the NRCC. “Clearly a self-described member of the middle class like Taddeo would have to sell her current house before buying a new one, so what is she waiting for?”
